Over the golden sandy causeway, you’ll discover The Pilchard Inn Burgh Island, an island pub with seven hundred years of history.

Looking for a pub or restaurant in Bigbury-on-Sea? The Pilchard Inn is here. Our traditional coastal inn is an old smuggler’s haunt with low ceilings, open fires and plenty of nooks and crannies to explore.

Find a cosy corner and sample a host of locally brewed craft beers, wines, local ciders and spirits to accompany the Pilchard Inn menu of simple, seasonal and scrumptious dishes.

There’s also plenty of outdoor seating for alfresco drinks and dining with a truly magnificent view at our pub on Burgh Island at Bigbury-on-Sea.

The Pilchard is everything you want from a pub in Devon. As one of the oldest pubs in Devon, the inn originally served the fishermen who lived on the island and nearby mainland; then the smugglers and wreckers who lured ships onto the rocks – and now you can venture over the causeway to enjoy its charms year-round … but remember to keep an eye on the tides!

And remember, we’re dog friendly.

What’s not to like. Fantastic food, we had steak. Lovely local cider from a few miles away. Excellent location. So quaint and old inside. But what made it was the staff, very efficient and great humour.
