Join our work family in this magical, unique and glamourous hotel set on the beautiful Devon coast.

Burgh Island Hotel is a bucket list destination for most of our guests. They come here to celebrate the milestones in their lives, anniversaries, weddings, birthdays, health and being in love. If you work with us you will spend every day making dreams come true.

What better purpose to have in life than bringing happiness to others? Well, we can make that happen for you if you join our team.

Our raison d’etre is to give our guests the exquisite experience of staying at their friend’s opulent holiday villa by the sea in the height of the roaring 20s – fun, frolic and frills! We are the dedicated and loved house staff who remember them from previous visits and shower them with attention and ensure that when they leave to go back to their ordinary lives they are replenished, fulfilled and carrying the magic of
Burgh in their hearts.

We are a family, and we are dedicated to looking after you as much as you are to looking after our guests.

We celebrate individuality, but teamwork is key to making our work family a happy one.

Challenges and Rewards of working on our Island

We are a tidal island cut off from the mainland twice a day, the island is accessible by the Hotel’s vehicles, by foot at low tide, and by our well renowned Sea Tractor at high tide. This adds adventure, but also logistical considerations when planning your arrival at work.

Staff can use the hotel’s Tennis Court, paddle boards or kayaks. They can also enjoy what the local area has to offer such as, hiking, all water sports, beach, cross country running, and cycling. Our large staff house on the mainland offers beautiful panoramic coastal views from the staff sitting room, and a large kitchen for cooking. It is the perfect base for outdoor enthusiasts, or those that prefer snuggling on the sofa with a good book to watch the sunset over the horizon. Regardless of whether you are a socialite or prefer your own company, there is something for everyone.

The hotel and local area is remote. This can be peaceful for some but challenging for those needing constant social interaction outside of those you work and live with or city amenities.  You need to be self aware and have good coping strategies. Unfortunately, like most rural villages Bigbury on Sea does not have access to public transport. Owning your own vehicle is ideal and we have access to free staff parking. We have an incentivised car share scheme to enable staff to get out and about (terms apply).

Tidal changes, bad weather and guest needs mean shifts can be irregular and changed at short notice. Resilience and Flexibility is a must.
