    Top cop turned crime writer Clare Mackintosh, who has sold more than three million books, will be talking to journalist York Membery about her life as an author, and what inspired her string of bestsellers, including her latest Top Ten book, It’s Not What You Think.

    Clare Mackintosh is a former police officer and the internationally bestselling crime author of nine novels, including I Let You Go, Hostage, and the critically acclaimed DC Ffion Morgan series. Collectively, her books have spent more than 60 weeks in the bestseller lists, been optioned for screen and translated into 40 languages. Her latest thriller It’s Not What You Think, published in March, was an instant number one Sunday Times bestseller. In this exclusive event, Clare will talk about her journey from crime fighter to crime writer, and share how she crafts her killer twists.

Her books are now published in over 50 countries and have won a number of British and international awards. She is an honorary Fellow of St Catharine’s College, Cambridge, has honorary doctorates in literature from the universities of Sheffield and Huddersfield. She is coming to do an immersive chocolate and wine tasting event including a short reading from her work Chocolat in an occasion that is sure to captivate the senses.

Described as “The Agatha Christie of our time” by writer David Baldacci, she is visiting Burgh Island to speak about her love of locked room mysteries, island settings, and luxury hotels, and the profound influence of Agatha Christie on her writing.
