Our Nettlefold restaurant offers a delicious and traditional afternoon tea in Devon in the most spectacular of locations. Take a step back in time to the party days of the 1920s and 1930s and experience the delights of Devon directly in front of you. 

For the best afternoon tea in Devon you have to look no further than Burgh Island. Our afternoon tea menu includes a decadent array of teas and coffees, perfect for an avid afternoon tea lover looking to make the most of their experience. Your afternoon tea choices include Darjeeling, Earl Grey, Jasmine Green Tea, Lemon & Ginger, Red Berry & Hibiscus, Rooibos, Camomile, Peppermint, Oolong and more. As well as a selection of coffee choices such as traditional lattes, cappuccinos, flat white and more. 

To eat we have a divine selection of some afternoon tea favourites, including Egg Mayonnaise with black pepper and watercress, Cucumber and Cream cheese, Smoked Salmon with juicy lemon and dill, and a delightful Honey Roast Ham and Pommery Mayo. 

And for a sweet treat our selection of cakes and fancies is sure to impress. We’ll provide a delicious tier arrangement of seasonal cakes and pastries, as well as freshly baked plain and fruit scones with a clotted cream and strawberry preserve. Your afternoon tea will be served traditionally between 12 – 3pm at £55 per person. Or for a champagne afternoon tea, £70 per person.

Arriving at our splendid location couldn’t be more of a spectacle! You’ll arrive via our famous sea tractor, providing the tidal behaviour is favourable. If the tide is out, feel free to sink your toes into the golden sands of Bigbury-On-Sea beach and soak up the gorgeous views as you stroll around the island at your own pace. If the tide is in, our famous sea tractor will sweep over the waves and ensure you arrive in a magical and unique way to experience the best afternoon tea Devon has to offer.

The island has been the home and favoured location of a number of famous guests, including The Beatles and Agatha Christie. One can only really understand the grandeur and spectacularity of Burgh Island if they come to see it for themselves. 

Once you’ve arrived you’ll find the Island to be a truly magical location filled with magnificent sights, the fresh sea air and abundance of things to keep you occupied, entertained and enthralled. The beach is filled with delightful sights and sounds, all viewable from our restaurant. Sit with something hot or cold in hand, sipping and admiring the views before taking a leisurely stroll down the beach, dipping your feet in the golden sands and feeling the fresh sea air splash over your face.

Ideally located in South Devon

For a truly remarkable afternoon tea in Devon, Burgh Island is the perfect location to enjoy delicious treats, stunning views and truly inspiring sights of years gone by. We are situated snugly away in the beautiful South of Devon. Our nearest towns are Bigbury-on-Sea and Challaborough. If you are arriving by car, simply arrive at our Bigbury-on-Sea beach and our famous island sea tractor will provide transport to guests for the perfect first impression. If you are arriving by train, the nearest stations are Totnes, Ivybridge and Plymouth. Alternatively, if you’re flying into the sunny South of Devon, the nearest airport is Exeter and if you’re planning on making a grand entrance, please contact our reception to arrange helipad use. 

You’ll find plenty to keep you busy on our island, as well as fabulous hotel events, decadent drinks in our bars, and even a dance or two in our ballroom. Not to mention divine dinners in our Nettleford and Pilchard restaurants.
