Campbell epitomised the spirit of the early 20th century; he was fascinated, even obsessed with the machine and what he could do with it. Pushing his vehicles to their limits, Campbell is best remembered for his records: in 1924, at Pendine Sands, he achieved the record for the two-way km at 146.16 mph; in 1925 it rose to 150.766 mph, Campbell becoming the first driver to exceed 150 mph.
